Dated? No, evergreen. 116 years later "La vedova allegra" set to music by Franz Lehàr still manages to entertain with sparkling music and atmosphere. The queen of operettas closed the opera season organized by the institution Marialisa de Carolis. And he closed it in a festive way at the Comunale of Sassari with the dramaturgy revised by Andrea Merli, director together with Renato Bonajuto, who inserted some contemporary terms (the Tuca Tuca) and some references to Sassari and Sardinia. In the sign of tradition, instead, the scenography and costumes of Artemio Cabassi who have recreated the Paris of the Bella époque. Effective use of costumes and colors: black and white of elegant tailcoats and evening dresses in the first act, riot of reds, fuchsia and purple for the third act with the intention of recreating the atmosphere of Chez Maxim's where Parisians and foreigners they went to dance and have fun. Intent succeeded thanks also to the fifty people present on stage in the scenes of the parties, including the choir of the institution directed by Antonio Costa, and the dance troupe of the Romae Capital Ballet (choreography by Giuliano de Luca and lights by Tony Grandi) who it is also exhibited in the famous can can.

Ten minutes of final applause proved the public's satisfaction, as well as the request for an encore at the end of the second act for the famous piece “E 'scabroso le donne studiar”.

Actor Andrea Binetti, who masters the role very well: with consummate skill he tore several laughs, “called” the applause and the accompaniment with the hands of the audience in some pieces. In closing, Binetti wanted to remember Elio Pandolfi, who died not even a month ago, a multifaceted actor who was the most famous Njegus of operetta in Italian representations.

The vocal rehearsals of Francesca Pusceddu (Valencienne) and Marco Miglietti (camille de Rossillon) are convincing, giving substance to the duets between the “honest” wife and her lover. Less constant but still appreciable the other couple, that of the protagonists: the Georgian soprano Madina Karbeli, in the eponymous role, and Vincenzo Nizzardo (Count Danilo) who le physique du rôle right.

Surprising for sympathy Matteo Loi, in the role of Kromow, husband always looking for his unfaithful wife Olga, played by Lara Rotili.

Mention of merit also for the Costa Rican baritone William Hernandez (Viscount Cascada) who has really nice tone and volume.

The whole cast had fun on stage, together with the orchestra conducted by Sergio Alapont, and this too contributed to convey that sense of early 20th century joy.
