Telling reality, near and far, with the privileged tools of photography and creative documentary. This is the vocation of the international festival "Asincronie", conceived, directed and organized by 4Caniperstrada, the collective of photographers and directors based in Sassari and with international experience . The photographic exhibition "The last grain of sand / L'ultimo pugno di sabbia" by Alessandro Mirai was inaugurated, from a research with Ester Sanna on environmental conflicts in the protected areas of Costa Rica. The exhibition will remain open at the Spazio Bunker, in via Porcellana 17, until May 10 (from Wednesday to Saturday, from 6 to 8 pm).

The reportage tells a story of resistance , a silent battle to preserve a fragile balance . In the heart of Costa Rica, along the Tempisque River, a community of artisanal sand collectors, the areneros, struggle to survive. For generations they have lived in harmony with the river, extracting sand with their own hands, respecting its rhythms and nature. But today, their profession is threatened by large mechanized companies , by the greed of the market and by the unstoppable advance of a construction industry that consumes without giving back. “The Last Grains of Sand” tells the story of these invisible workers.

The reportage is one of the results of a six-month journey through Costa Rica during and is born from the encounter between the photographic gaze of Alessandro Mirai and the socio-economic research of Ester Sanna. The exhibition is a preview of the sixth edition of the "Asincronie" Festival of documentary cinema and photography that will take place in Sassari from June 3 to 8.
