"The Goalkeeper Who Stopped Maradona" is the title of the book by Renato Copparoni, former Cagliari goalkeeper. The title recalls the episode of March 2, 1986, when the San Gavino goalkeeper stopped Maradona during a Napoli-Turin match at the San Paolo stadium. It will be presented this Saturday at 6:00 PM at the Cagliari Club Coordination Center, Via Ariosto 26.
Written by Mario Fadda and Umberto Oppus, with a foreword by Renato Zaccarelli and an afterword by Luciano Moggi, it traces Copparoni's life: born in San Gavino Monreale on October 27, 1952, after starting out at Cagliari (he played until 1978) he moved to Torino, where he remained for almost a decade, also making UEFA Cup appearances. In 1987-1988, he spent his last year at Verona, followed by his coaching career.
The book presentation will be attended by Copparoni himself, one of the authors (Mario Fadda) and former Cagliari player Riccardo Dessì. Tore Saba, president of the Cagliari Club Coordination Center, will introduce the event with greetings. Journalist Nanni Boi will moderate.
