Written by the Neapolitan playwright Manlio Santanelli , "Regina Madre" has been translated into 21 languages. It is the title that on Thursday and Friday at the Teatro Astra in Sassari (starting at 9 pm) closes the series "Primavera a Teatro " organized by the Compagnia Teatro Sassari. The show sees Teresa Soro on stage, who also edited the adaptation of the text, and Luca Fancello , directed by Alfredo Ruscitto .
The story has two protagonists Regina, a woman who is still energetic and vital but who, at least according to her doctor, has health problems, and her son, Alfredo, a fifty-year-old who suffers from constant depression and anxiety. Alfredo decides to move in with his mother to be closer to her and assist her, but his intentions are also different, that is, to create a scoop for the newspaper where he works by recounting the last months and the eventual death of his mother. When Regina discovers her son's intentions, a back and forth of blackmail, spite, jokes, gestures of understanding and mutual revenge will make the plot lively in an escalation of revelations and exchanges of vitriolic jokes that make the dialogues exquisitely comical. "We have confronted a wonderful text - says Teresa Soro - of spoken theatre that makes you think and smile through gritted teeth. A normal mother-son ménage with all the possible nuances, the skirmishes, the discoveries of truths never revealed, the mutual misunderstandings. With Luca Fancello we have tried to bring the naturalness of these characters to the public, certain that many spectators will be able to identify with their tragicomic experiences".
