"Processione po Efis", a song dedicated to Saint Efisio

The notes immediately bring to mind the colours of the celebration, the evocative images of the ox-drawn carriage making its way among the faithful, and the unmistakable scent of sa ramadura : “Processione po Efis”, the piece composed by the launeddas player Matteo Muscas and the pianist Samuele Meloni, encapsulates the essence of the celebration of Sant'Efisio.

The single, out tomorrow on all platforms, perfectly combines two completely different instruments such as the launeddas and the piano, but still capable of giving life to a melody that manages to combine tradition with innovation. The single, accompanied by the beautiful video made by Alberto Malizia, is destined to become the modern soundtrack of the most evocative moments of the feast of the Martire Guerriero.

Matteo Muscas, an immensely talented player who grew up under the tutelage of maestro Orlando Mascia, tells how the idea of composing a piece that evoked the atmosphere of the procession of Sant'Efisio was born: «It may seem incredible, but this project was conceived thousands of kilometers from Sardinia, while we were on tour in New Zealand. At the airport there was a piano, to while away the time waiting for our flight Samuele and I tried to play together, and that's how – note after note – this piece was born. Our goal was to pay homage to Sant'Efisio using the launeddas, but also an instrument of so-called "cultured music" such as the piano, in order to create a more contemporary music».

Matteo Muscas, in addition to producing music, dedicates himself to teaching ancient instruments such as launeddas and su sulittu, to pass on his passion to the new generations: «Last year, in collaboration with the Municipality of Pula, after many years we revived the traditional music course in schools, the one from which my artistic path was born. Today there are 80 children who learn to play ancient instruments, treasures that we have a duty to preserve: seeing them go on stage at Domus antigas, in front of hundreds of people, was truly exciting».
