"My health is my right": WHO theme for 2024
the slogan to celebrate World Health Day and defend the universal right (including Sardinians) to treatmentWorld Health Day is celebrated in April, dedicated every year to a specific (health) topic of global interest. April 7, 1948 is, in fact, the anniversary of the foundation of the World Health Organization. The theme for 2024 is "my health, it is my right", chosen to remember the importance of defending the universal right to have access to health services, health education, drinking water, unpolluted air, to safe food, to appropriate housing, working and environmental conditions, to freedom from all forms of discrimination.
The right to health of many (including Sardinians) is in danger in light of the increase in infectious and non-communicable diseases, wars, environmental pollution and climate change. Although nearly 150 nations recognize health as a constitutional right, violations of this right are frequent in real life.
The protection of health as a fundamental human right is therefore fundamental: everyone should have access to health services without a dramatic financial impact (about half of the world's population does not have complete coverage for essential health services). Every government should invest in health because national profits depend on protecting the health of the population.
