Two months ago, he suffered a very serious heart infection, and now Manuel Desogus, 37, from Las Plassas with family ties to Villanovafranca, is hospitalized in serious but stable condition in the intensive care unit of Berlin's Charité Hospital. He is coping completely alone with his illness, without any family members by his side.
The special flight to bring him home to Sardinia would cost 20,000 euros. His aunt, Ignazia Meloni, explains the additional difficulties of the situation: Manuel, who emigrated 12 years ago, is not a resident on the island and therefore cannot access reimbursement for medical travel. Meanwhile, having lost his job there and consequently his insurance, hospitalization costs are ballooning.
To overcome the stalemate, the woman started a fundraiser on GoFundMe.
