A "reckless and uncontrolled management of artificial intelligence and the distorted use of process automation in economic activities and employment" could have a "devastating" impact in Sardinia .
This is what emerges from a dossier by Confartigianato , according to which there are over 170 professions on display, with 109,000 companies and 310,000 workers at risk on the island alone .
The association speaks of "medium-high risk" for three quarters of Sardinian companies and for 9 out of 10 artisan companies . Among workers, the high risk impacts 4 out of 5 employees, while for artisans the percentage even rises to 98% .
However, Confartigianato is not an attack on artificial intelligence which, " if managed wisely, could represent a great opportunity for growth and change ".
The dossier shows that 25.2% of Sardinian companies (fifth place in Italy) resort to investments aimed at using big data to gather information on the markets. 68.1% have made digital investments to adjust skills while only 34.6% of employees have followed training on digitalisation . Finally, only 13.5% are constantly looking for personnel with a STEM profile (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
At present, AI in small businesses is used for predictive maintenance or production quality control (30.4%), for marketing and sales (24.1%), IT security (21.1%) and organization of business administration processes (16.6%) . It is used less for logistics functions (10.3%), human resource management (5.8%).
