These are just some of the ironic reactions to the remarks of Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, who said from the stage of the Brothers of Italy event in Milan: «Dante Alighieri was the founder of right-wing thought in Italy, the right has culture, it must only affirm it" .

«We find that vision of the human and of the person in Dante, but I also believe his political construction is profoundly right-wing . We must not replace the cultural hegemony of the left, the Gramscian one, with another hegemony, that of the right. We must liberate culture, which is culture only if it is free and dialectical».

FdI deputy Federico Mollicone came to his aid: "Dante - he said - is the father of the Italian language and of the homeland, concepts that still make the left feel sick".

Numerous replies to the words of the Minister of Culture: "Dante on the right, but you can," tweeted Carlo Calenda. " If Sangiuliano has to go and bother Dante to find a cultural reference to the right, the culture minister has some problems with history and Meloni has some problems with the choice of ministers", wrote Raffaella Paita, President of the Action-Italy Group Live in the Senate.

Irene Manzi, Pd group leader in the culture commission, asked not to bother the father of the Italian language for laughable and caricatured analyses. From Rifondazione Comunista, Giovanni Barbera imagines that «poor Dante will turn over in his grave. The truth is that the Italian populist and xenophobic right is based on a culture so backward as to be forced to appropriate figures that belong to everyone, regardless of political color ».

Pupi Avati, author of the recently released film on Dante, observed: «It must be said without any controversy but the release is a bit specious. In the sense that the value of Dante, the reason why he has survived to this day and beyond today is his poetic, immense, mysterious excess, certainly not his political position ».
