Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's "irritation" is leaking through Palazzo Chigi circles over the news —published by several newspapers, starting with "Il Domani"—of the salary increase decided by CNEL president Renato Brunetta, invoking the Constitutional Court ruling abolishing the annual salary cap of 240,000 euros for public sector managers.

A decision that, from what has filtered out, is defined as "not acceptable", just as the decision regarding the salary adjustment is "inappropriate" .

But the controversy has been served, with the opposition attacking. "Unbelievable: Renato Brunetta has raised his salary at the National Council of Labour (CNEL), of which he is president, from €250,000 to €310,000 a year. Along with him, all of his managers, doubling the National Council of Economy and Labour's wage bill," wrote Nicola Fratoianni of AVS on Facebook. "And it's Brunetta himself," Fratoianni continued, "who fiercely opposed the minimum wage of €9 gross per hour. They are truly shameless."

Matteo Renzi, leader of Italia Viva , also attacked: "The CNEL has approved a €1.5 million raise for top management and €200,000 for staff, as reported by "Il Domani." Giorgia Meloni can't find the money to raise middle-class salaries, but she does find it to increase Brunetta's job creation ," the former prime minister wrote on social media.
