"Asilo Nido": the work of Gianni Nieddu, refuge and poetry in the countryside of Alghero

A new piece of art has settled on the walls of the Bioagriturismo Nure, in the countryside of Alghero. After inaugurating, in the past years, the installations of Igino Panzino and Danilo Sini, this time the host, Gabriele Monti, has invited the artist Gianni Nieddu , born in Alghero in 1957, to leave a mark on the ancient rural structure in via Flumene Longu 38 (Santa Maria La Palma) which takes its name from the homonymous nuraghe that insists on the company.

“ Asilo Nido” is the title of the creation, a work that not only enriches the view, but also sends a message of welcome. An orderly and lively set of shelter-houses for birds that inhabit the sky of Nurra. Shelter for migratory and sedentary birds, but also a symbol of a lost lightness. As the curator Mariolina Cosseddu also writes, these small constructions in marine wood, resistant to the relentless sun and salty wind of Alghero, are designed with an almost ornithological precision: each measurement is calibrated, each entrance hole corresponds to the needs of a specific species, each detail is taken care of to offer safety and possibility. Each house is a unique work that speaks of home and protection. In an era in which the concept of shelter is wounded by wars and forced migrations, these colorful houses become a universal symbol of an elementary right: that of being able to find a place to stop.

Last Saturday the inauguration, in the style of the Nure farmhouse, with good music and zero-mile organic products . The “Parco delle arti” takes shape, in short, in the ancient Nure which was a city of Roman times that was located between Lake Baratz and Sant'Imbenia, «a place invisible to us today, but thanks to the artists we can still tell our guests about it, says Gabriele Monti. Giovanni Sanna Passino and Giorgio Crobu played the project “Together”, to accompany the artistic evening.
