Thyroid diseases have a high frequency in Sardinia , Hashimoto's thyroiditis in particular has one of the highest incidences in the world.
There are several areas of goitrous endemic and a high frequency of hyperthyroidism and differentiated carcinomas . It is estimated that 20-25% of the Sardinian population is affected by thyroid disease.

As far as the surgical treatment of thyroid diseases is concerned, more than a thousand thyroidectomy operations are performed in Sardinia every year, with an increasing trend. 40% of these are performed at the Duilio Casula Polyclinic, of which 150 are performed on tumours.
The talk “15 minutes with…” is edited by Aou Cagliari News, the newspaper of the university hospital. An agile and simple format, it includes 15 minutes of discussions with specialists and the possibility for the public to ask questions live.
