Hypnotic guitar riffs and psychedelic solos, accompanied by punchy grooves and a vocal reminiscent of the most pounding blues rock: a week after the release of "Western Wilderness," the new album by Elepharmers, receives its first live performance this Sunday at Cueva Rock in Quartucciu, starting at 7 p.m. The Sardinian band will return to the stage with an album that marks a return to their roots, before embarking on their European tour in November, a night with opening guests Phantomized and organized by the venue and Monolithix Agency.

The band

Formed in Cagliari in 2010 by the trio of Guido Solinas (aka El Chino, vocals and bass), Andrea Cadeddu (guitar), and Maurizio Mura (drums), the band draws inspiration from other formative influences, such as thrash metal, grunge, and traditional hard rock, and combines the lowered tunings of stoner with bluesy vocals. Over the years, the three have released the works "Weird Tales From the Third Planet" (2013) and "Erebus" (2016), both on Go Down Records, before moving to the island's Electric Valley Records, where they released the concept album "Lords of Galaxia" in 2019, where they took an unexpected detour towards space rock. Already accustomed to concerts abroad, they have graced the stages of Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands, sharing the bill with several well-known names in the genre such as Red Fang and Electric Moon: the international tour scheduled for November will promote the new album, also published by Electric Valley.

The disc

"Western Wilderness," which boasts a Moebius-style cover by artist Inkline, marks a return to the band's primal sound, bringing back the harsh, desert-like sounds of stoner, with hints of psychedelia. Nine tracks aren't linked by a defined concept, but by evocations of sandy, abandoned villages, where nature silently reclaims the space that man has deprived it of. A dry sound, which on Sunday evening will find a fitting introduction in the rough and scratchy proto-punk of Phantomized.
