On the occasion of Science Week, AICO Sardinia, the Italian Association of Operating Room Nurses, is promoting the “Surgery Theatre” project from today to Sunday at the “Le Vele Millennium” Shopping Centre in Quartucciu.

The event, which inherits the success of past editions (2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023) in the shopping centers of Cagliari and Sassari, takes up the theme "BEES, Be a citizEn Scientist", launched by Frascati Scienza with the aim of encouraging citizens to meet the world of scientific research.

A real operating room has been set up, where nurses, doctors, midwives and perfusion technicians will illustrate the work, techniques and research to the public.

The Surgery Theatre is a faithful reproduction of the operating room, equipped with all the machinery and devices (operating table, anesthesia device, surgical lamps, various electromedical equipment, laparoscopic tower, various types of instruments and medical devices), where everything will be real except the patient and where the operating team will move as if they were actually operating to allow the public to discover what lies behind a surgical operation.

During the event, in the afternoon, there will be specific sessions where particular topics such as multi-organ collection and transplantation will be explored. In particular, the packaging and transport with oxygenated perfusion of the organ to be transplanted.

There will also be a session dedicated to orthopedics-traumatology and one to abdominal surgery with the support of films related to robotic surgery. There will also be simulations of extra-hospital emergencies with the participation of 118.
