The football world mourns the passing of Stefano Vavoli , a historic goalkeeper who passed away in Quartu. Originally from Terracina, born in 1960, Vavoli enjoyed a long career in both professional and amateur football, leaving a profound mark on Sardinian football as well. Having come through Genoa 's youth academy, he reached Serie A with Hellas Verona in the 1986-87 season, serving as assistant to Giuliano Giuliani and making two appearances. He subsequently played in Serie C , playing for numerous clubs, including Pergocrema, Virtus Entella, Massese, Jesi, Turris, and Puteolana , before ending his playing career in 1999.
After moving to Sardinia, Vavoli became a key figure in the island's football scene. He defended the posts at Sorso, Sant'Elena Quartu, and Monteponi Iglesias , continuing his career beyond the age of 37 with stints at Muravera and Dolianova . After retiring, he continued his career as a goalkeeping coach for several Sardinian amateur clubs.
Messages of condolence have been numerous. The Sardinia Regional Committee , including President Gianni Cadoni, the Board of Directors, employees, collaborators, and all the regional football clubs, expressed their condolences to the family. Sant'Elena Quartu also expressed its deepest sympathy: "It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Stefano Vavoli. We will miss his passion and love for life immensely."
Stefano Vavoli 's funeral will be held tomorrow at 4pm in the church of San Giovanni Evangelista in Quartu .
