Quality of life: Cagliari climbs two positions, Oristano on the podium for safety
The Sardinian capital also ranks first in terms of indicators dedicated to women's well-being

In first place for the best quality of life in 2022 is Piazza Bologna (it is the fifth time in 33 years), followed by Florence. The annual study was carried out by Il Sole 24 Ore and in the new edition it gives ample space to the events which have characterized the last 12 months with their repercussions on the territory . They range from the war in Ukraine to inflation to high energy prices.
Among the metropolitan cities, Cagliari rises by two positions and passes from 20th to 18th place . The Sardinian capital also excels in the part of the study dedicated to the quality of life of women. The province of Monza and Brianza offers the greatest prosperity, followed by Treviso and Cagliari.
The ranking includes Milan which remains in the top ten but drops from second to eighth place, and Rome which slips to 31st, losing 18 positions. Turin is at 40th (-12 positions). At the bottom Naples (98th place, down eight positions) and Palermo (88th place, + 7 positions).
As regards the six areas into which the 90 statistical indicators are divided, the podium sees Oristano at the top (together with Pordenone and Sondrio) for Justice and Security ; for Wealth and Consumption Belluno, Bologna and Bolzano; for Business and Work Milan, Trieste and Rome; for Demography, Health and Society Bologna, Modena and Rome; for Environment and Services Pisa, Siena and Aosta; for Culture and Leisure Florence, Trieste and Gorizia.
There are some new indicators among the indicators : two are related to inflation; one package considers energy from renewable sources/energy upgrading/energy consumption; the index of electoral participation in the last general elections in September 2022; nine synthetic indices included in the survey which aggregate several parameters (Quality of life for young people, children and the elderly, Quality of life for women, Urban ecosystem, Crime index, Sportsmanship index, Climate index, IcityRank on digital cities).
While some historical indicators of the survey are confirmed : per capita added value; house prices and incidence of rents on the average declared income; youth entrepreneurship; young NEETs; hours of ordinary Cig; accidents at work; air quality index; motorization rate; index of litigation in the courts; mortality from road accidents; number of bars, restaurants, bookshops and gyms; farmhouses; reading index; urban green; ultra-fast broadband; municipal administrators under 40.
