PulArchàios has had a 20-year mission: to bring the archaeological beauties of Nora, the naturalistic context in which the site is immersed and its ruins to the general public made up of adults and children, students, tourists and visitors.

The aim is to make the population an active protagonist of what happens in one of the most magical and fascinating sites known and which for decades has continued to attract scholars from all over Italy and the world.

This year, for its twentieth birthday, PulArchàios has a rich program of events - organized thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality of Pula and the Pula Cultura Diffusa Foundation - which are concomitant with the archaeological mission of Nora 2024.

From September 4th to October 5th, there are many events scheduled to spread as much as possible the culture of archaeology, the conservation of cultural heritage and the dissemination of the results of the excavations .

It should be remembered that four universities are currently working in the archaeological park of Nora, conducting excavation and research activities: Cagliari, Genoa, Milan and Padua.

PulArchàios has always stood out as an event that has been able to combine the scientific, technical and conference part, with the more informative and diffusion part of this type of culture especially to young people, students of schools and universities, who are the natural heirs of our cultural heritage.

Also this year the events dedicated to schools are renewed: the visits to the site and to the archaeological construction site of the institutes of Pula, the laboratory activities, the in-depth studies and the conference lessons for the older students.

On Saturday 5th October, in the outdoor space of the Teatro Maria Carta, starting at 7pm, the “Romanum Convivium” will be held. Students from the Azuni hotel management institute in Pula will prepare the exquisite dishes that were served at the time on the tables of the inhabitants of ancient Nora.

"We are convinced that the true treasure of this territory is not represented by the beaches, but by its immense historical and archaeological heritage. Events like PulArchàios produce knowledge, thanks to the eleven conferences and all the activities that will accompany the excavation campaign of the archaeologists, tourists and residents will be able to learn more about the past of Nora", explains the mayor of Pula Walter Cabasino .

"Several events will be dedicated to primary and secondary school students," adds Manuela Serra , Councilor for Culture and Public Education, "laboratories and guided tours will have the merit of sparking their interest in archaeology. As per tradition, students from the Azuni Hotel Institute will contribute to the preparation of the Romanum Convivium, the Roman lunch that will close the events on the calendar."

For Augusto Porceddu , of the board of directors of the Pula Cultura Diffusa Foundation, «this event was born with the aim of involving citizens in the activities carried out by archaeologists during the excavation campaign. Before the advent of PulArchàios, not much attention was paid to the work conducted by the Universities on the site. Now, however, the public follows the conferences with interest and is curious to learn about the new discoveries».

Stefano Floris , archaeologist and member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation, explains how this year the dissemination activities will also involve other important sites in southern Sardinia: «The format is the usual one, but in this edition, in addition to meetings with researchers to talk about the news regarding Nora, there will be events dedicated to the discovery of the archaeological areas of Santadi, Sant'Antioco and Domus de Maria, a way to give the public an overall vision of the history of the island».
