PSG regained a seemingly lost match and beat the English side on penalties. After the final whistle and 96 minutes of play, PSG and Tottenham finished 2-2 (0-1) in the European Super Cup final in Udine.
PSG struggled for most of the match, finally breaking the deadlock in the 39th minute with a goal from Van de Ven. After Donnarumma's misfortune, Chevalier started, but early in the second half, Romero scored a second goal following his own mistake. Everything changed in the final minutes: Lee pulled one back in the 85th minute, and Ramos equalized in the 93rd.
The trophy was decided by penalties, as the competition rules do not allow for extra time. The French won.
Meanwhile, "Stop killing children, stop killing civilians" was the message that UEFA wanted to send to the world before the start of the Super Cup between PSG and Tottenham, at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, on a large banner displayed at the entrance of the two teams onto the pitch.
The message, without any specific reference, seemed to be directed at the war in Palestine, especially considering that two children who fled Gaza will be attending the awards ceremony. It was greeted with prolonged applause from those present.
