Progressives: Massimo Zedda prepares to become secretary
Leadership was reconfirmed with a change of role. Another key development is the federal agreement with the Democratic Party.Massimo Zedda is preparing to become secretary of the Progressives, the party that the mayor of Cagliari founded in 2017 (certainly not alone) and of which he remains the driving force. Hence, his leadership has been confirmed with a change of role from president (current) to secretary , based on a change in the statute that currently structures the Progressives along the lines of the old DS. There will also be a leadership.
The other key development coming from the Congress, held in Cagliari at the Teatro delle Saline—the first for Zedda's party—is the construction of a working pact with the Democratic Party. This federative agreement was ratified by the Democratic Party's regional secretary, Silvio Lai. Internationally, the Progressives, again in concert with the Democrats, are looking to the PSE, of which the Democratic Party is already a member.
"We must build more just and peaceful societies, where water, education, mobility, and the environment must be the guiding principles of government." The secretary-designate (the election is scheduled for this afternoon by 5:00 PM) also warned "against fascism and Nazi-fascism, a crime, as President Pertini defined them."
Silvio Lai spoke of a "federal challenge that could become a national model." The work is being coordinated by MP Francesca Ghirra. Also present were the municipal councilors, both male and female, as well as the two regional councilors, Francesco Agus and Ivan Pintus.
The rift between the Progressives and Gian Franco Satta, the Agriculture Minister who resigned on Thursday, occurred in the building on Via Roma. Agus remains the most likely candidate to succeed him. But he's not giving any specifics, even on the sidelines of the congress: "We'll see what happens," he said.
The entire first part of the morning is dedicated to speeches by the Campo largo parties allied in the Region, as well as progressive mayors and leaders.
