A concrete plan to address the dramatic situation of poverty which in Sardinia "affects over 120 thousand families". This was requested by the regional CISL, through its general secretary, Pier Luigi Ledda, who in the first meeting of the trade union organizations with the president of the Region gave Alessandra Todde a dossier with critical issues and proposals for the Island.

«In recent days, the Caritas Poverty Statistical Report 2024 was presented - explains Ledda - which confirms that the phenomenon is now at an historical and structural high in the country. In Sardinia, which is absolutely in line with the national framework, the CISL considers it a priority that structural policies be launched against poverty, old and new phenomena that are often not registered, and that a now dramatic situation be addressed, which heralds an even more difficult for Sardinia if measures are not taken to combat the various forms of poverty. With respect to material poverty - the CISL leader further clarifies - Sardinia presents a worrying, insidious and dramatic picture in relation to the number of families without income from work, which exceeds the number of 120,000 out of a total of 700,000 (726,348)".

In our region, the CISL reminds us, relative and absolute poverty constitutes a phenomenon that involves an increasingly large number of elderly people. The social security income from old age pensions records the average regional monthly amount of 1,090.34 euros (amount calculated gross), an income threshold that coincides with that identified for relative poverty (1,085 euros for a household made up of two people).

«Welfare pensions - Ledda further points out - record an average monthly social allowance figure of 408.97 euros and 426.44 euros for civilian invalids. Amounts that highlight the burden of material poverty among the elderly and, consequently, how urgent it is to intervene with widespread and generative welfare that strengthens social and socio-welfare policies. We cannot postpone it any longer - concludes the secretary -, politics must put this issue at the top of its agenda: we need a multi-year plan, a legislative pact, which ignores sides and works in the interests of the Sardinians".
