From the martyrdom of Saint Lucia to the devoted life of Maria Adelaide of Habsburg Lorraine, Queen of Sardinia, passing through the tragic and heroic tale of Roman Lucrezia. The National Art Gallery of Sassari offers “Stories of Women. The duty to be saints, queens, heroines" , a guided tour to discover the stories contained in the paintings of the Museum's collection. The appointment is for Friday 8 March, International Women's Day. Free entry for the whole day.
The event is proposed as a reflection on the women portrayed and their existence, necessarily heroic and tragic: tales of queens, saints, common and legendary women. Female figures forced to be 'special' , almost always, following an episode of violence, or in any case coercion. Seductive, cultured and wise, imaginary or real characters, the women portrayed in the works exhibited in the Pinacoteca will be presented through an original itinerary.
Visitors will be accompanied into the world of the protagonists, however seen from a male perspective, with the works of Renaissance authors, passing through the Baroque and arriving at the gentle and moving representation of Giovanni Marghinotti, in the 19th century.
