Glencore has requested a meeting at the highest levels of government and wants to see the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso and the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni directly.

It is the only novelty that emerged today in the umpteenth meeting at Mimit on the Portovesme crisis. For the rest, no progress: no guarantee on the conversion project and on the maintenance of employment levels. And no to the restart of the now stopped production lines .

The disappointment expressed both by the trade unions and by the representatives of the regional council sitting today at the table in Rome together with the representatives of the government, Portovesme Srl and Glencore bears witness to the stalemate.

A "non-positive" outcome says Marco Porcu and Anita Pili , councilors for the Environment and Industry, in unison.

«Evidently the company has not done what was envisaged from the beginning to try to solve the problem of production lines that are not currently running , such as those of San Gavino, in the face of a constant commitment by the other institutions at the table. We therefore asked for an effort in the shortest possible time, so that in the next meeting a solution can be found that gives not only a response to the current emergency, but also concrete development of the industrial presence in the long term», Pili's words.

Porcu wants more clarity on what the multinational wants to do on the island: «We have asked Glencore several times whether or not it intends to carry on the lithium battery project and whether this concerns only Sardinia or also the other production sites in Europe . This is essential to understand the real intentions of the company on the island".

"No progress", underlined the trade union delegations in a joint statement, in a meeting which is " a sort of photocopy of the previous one ".

"No prejudices - underline the unions - towards a sustainable conversion project that looks towards the circular economy, but it is necessary that the projects are not only hypotheses but concrete commitments and capable of maintaining employment levels unchanged".

Furthermore, they observe, " it is necessary to arrive at future productions with the plant running and the workers active and with adequate industrial solutions for the San Gavino plant ". But with respect to these requests « no progress has been recorded . On the one hand, the company reiterates that the zinc line can only restart with a lower energy price, on the other, the government confirms that at the moment there are no solutions to deal with the issue".
