New protests from the workers after the black smoke in the awaited meeting at the Ministry of Enterprises on the Portovesme srl dispute.

In San Gavino some workers climbed onto the terrace of the furnace, protests are also underway in Portovesme.

In fact, the table convened to unblock the situation did not provide satisfactory solutions for the unions . So next Monday a new assembly of workers will be convened to undertake new "fighting actions" .

From what has been learned, the summit ended with almost nothing done. The ministry, with the undersecretary Fausta Bergamotto , has put on the table the possibility for Glencore , the multinational owner of the Sulcis industrial site, to activate a tax credit for the next 3 months , with a figure to be defined in the Council of Ministers next week.

A proposal that the company would not consider sufficient to restart.

"It was an unsatisfactory summit and we are also disappointed with the company's position - says the territorial secretary of Filctem CGIL, Emanuele Madeddu - on Monday at 8 there will be a workers' assembly and any new fighting actions will be decided".

«There is an appeal from the government on the restart of the Portoscuso production plants which, in the financial report presented by the company in December for 2023, are seen as marginal and no longer strategic - observes Pierluigi Loi of Uiltec - We make a call to responsibility of the company that has to say what it wants to do. For now we are not satisfied with the outcome of the meeting ».

Following the summit, the Ministry released a note, which reads: «After numerous interlocutions from the Government with the interested parties, the crisis table on Portovesme was convened today at the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, chaired by the undersecretary Fausta Bergamotto, with representatives of the Sardinia Region, the company and the social partners. At the end, the institutions asked the company to reactivate the ovens and restart production ».

In the meantime, the government should convene Glencore in the next few days for a further study on the company's real intentions for the future of the Portovesme and San Gavino plants.
