In Portovesme there is concern about the stop of the zinc line, scheduled by Portovesme srl for the end of the month due to the unsustainable prices of electricity, which is permanently quoted at 300 euros. A decision that will affect 400 direct employees to which the contractors will be added. Today the factory RSU and the chemists' secretariats met with the mayors of Sulcis, explaining the future scenario that is about to come about with the shutdown of the most energy-consuming plants.

“We know that expensive energy is a question that is affecting production activities throughout Italy and all of Europe - said the mayor of Portoscuso Giorgio Alimonda - but the social question cannot be added to the economic policy problem. If you really have to get to the redundancy fund, all workers, including contracts and temporary workers, must be guaranteed a shock absorber while waiting for the problem to be resolved. Otherwise in this territory we would have to deal with a new social drama ”.

Government intervention is expected to calm energy prices which are bringing industrial production to its knees and will affect household bills. "We know that the Government will implement solutions, it is a national problem to be addressed as soon as possible - says Mauro Usai, mayor of Iglesias - but it cannot be that the workers pay. Portovesme srl will save money by stopping the plants: one million is destined to cushion the impact of the shutdown on the incomes of all workers, who are the same ones who spend on our commercial activities ".

The concern particularly concerns procurement workers because there is the fear that not all companies are able to anticipate the layoffs.

A social issue, but also a political one. “The Region must do its part - says Pietro Cocco, mayor of Gonnesa - as well as other Regions are doing to ask for solutions to the dear - energy. In the Portovesme srl case, it is unacceptable that the weakest link in the chain, ie the workers, pays for the moment of difficulty ".

For tomorrow the trade unions have invited Sardinian parliamentarians to Portovesme.
