The monument is the subject of an intense campaign of metric and qualitative surveys that uses the most advanced technologies that have made it possible to deepen some discoveries. The findings highlighted an epigraph with a "curse", an inscription detected using tools that demonstrate how it is possible to combine three-dimensional perspective capacity with technological innovation.
This is the project "3D Laser Scanner Survey of the Basilica of San Gavino" launched a few months ago on the initiative of the "Centro Studi Basilica of San Gavino" which has been developing initiatives in the cultural field for 25 years, chaired by the epigraphist Giuseppe Piras.
The vision of the contents of the inscription, not easily visible to the naked eye, appeared on a base of the church column thanks to the use of the laser scanner: "In the year of the Lord 1211, on the 14th day of the calends (the month is not indicated), that personage and no one else in this tomb may rest in peace ”, which translated indicates a resolute warning against anyone who intends to violate the burial. "A sort of curse - explains Piras - or if you remove my bones and put yours you will not rest in peace".
