Porto Torres will be among the leading international ports at Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami, the world's leading cruise industry trade show, taking place from April 13th to 16th at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Porto Torres's presence at this prestigious international showcase is the result of a dialogue between the city administration and the Sardinian Sea Port Authority, both committed to promoting the port and strengthening its presence in the international cruise market, enabling it to increasingly become a driving force for the promotion of the entire northwest Sardinia region. The event represents the industry's premier meeting point, bringing together cruise lines, port operators, tourist destinations, suppliers, and international decision-makers who are helping to shape the future of cruise tourism. The 2026 edition is expected to attract over 11,500 attendees from 128 countries, with 650 exhibitors, 75 cruise line brands, and 240 speakers participating in conferences and discussions.
In anticipation of their participation in the Miami trade show, Valeria Mangiarotti, marketing manager for the Port Authority, and Carlo Poddighe of the marketing office were recently accompanied by members of the city council and City Council President Franco Satta to discover the city's main attractions. The group visited some of the most famous sites, from the Basilica of San Gavino to the small church of Balai Lontano, and the Turris Libisonis archaeological site. They also stopped at the Li Lioni estates, where fresh pasta-making workshops were organized to promote experiential tourism linked to local traditions and food and wine.
The visit was an opportunity to showcase significant examples of the rich historical, archaeological, and cultural heritage of the entire metropolitan city of Sassari. The goal is to showcase Porto Torres not just as a port of call, but as a gateway to a broader region, offering cruise passengers a wide network of experiences and attractions spanning the entire northwest.
All these elements fully meet the demands of cruise lines, which are increasingly focused on offering passengers authentic experiences, tied to the history and culture of the places they visit. Particular attention has also been paid to events celebrating local identity and traditions. In preparation for the Miami event, the Administration has developed a territorial promotion project, overseen by Councilor for Productive Activities Claudio Piras, entitled: "Porto Torres: Ancient Port, Wild Island, Roman City Embedded in the Modern City - The Gateway to Sardinia: Between Myth, History, and Nature at a Human Pace."
A concept that aims to showcase Porto Torres as the gateway to Sardinia, combining the charm of its millennia-old history, the richness of its archaeological heritage, and the natural beauty of the island and the Gulf of Asinara, offering cruise passengers an authentic experience of myth, culture, and unique landscapes.
The meeting is also linked to the upcoming major event to be held in May in Porto Torres, promoted by the Port Authority and the Municipality—"ICD – Italian Cruise Day"—which will be attended by cruise ship owners and national and international tour operators. The previous evening, the same representatives had also gathered at a technical meeting at the Port Authority headquarters to define the strategies to be implemented for this important international event. Several local tour operators and businesses also attended the meeting, entities that can make a significant contribution to the development of experiential tourism and the development of proposals that best showcase the region.
