The world of karate and more generally of sport mourns the death of the champion and master karateka Sergio Sassu, a 62-year-old athlete from Porto Torres, who died prematurely after a long period of suffering due to an incurable disease.

He left after more than thirty years spent in karate kimono, teaching the art and techniques of a fighting discipline but also of life. A professional on the mat, he won the title of junior regional champion in the kata category. Then he obtained the black belt which led him to move to Sassari under the guidance of master Angelo Spilateri.

In the footsteps of Hiroschi Shirai decided to leave the activity of athlete to begin his adventure as a teacher, becoming part of the list of the great federal teachers of traditional karate, where he obtained promotion to national arbiter of the discipline.

Dozens of athletes owe it to him for having learned to better understand and accept their limits and their psycho-physical balance. The last farewell to Porto Torres, this morning, in the church of the Holy Spirit in the presence of family members and many friends and "disciples" of karateka who wanted to accompany him on his last journey.
