Only a blue dot corresponding to Olbia. In the Italian railway map published by Corriere della Sera, the projects for the High Speed and the Frecciarossa are a riot of blue dots and red lines almost everywhere, except in Sardinia. That solitary dot indicates the railway connection to the Olbia airport that will be built with the funds of the Pnrr , but for the rest not even a sleeper will arrive.

Looking at the figures of the Pnrr for the railway network , it immediately becomes clear that Sardinia is the Calimero of Italy : many billions are destined for the South (almost 10 in Campania alone and over 7 in Puglia, to give two examples), while for the Island there is only a billion and a half : a higher per capita expenditure than in some regions, but it must be considered that our population doubles in the summer, when there is more demand for public transport, and that in other parts of Italy there is already a good network of connections. And Sardinia has the lowest number of funded projects in the whole of the South: only ten .

Meanwhile, there is a debate about the progress of the PNRR construction sites in Sardinia. The four billion euros assigned to the Island so far have not brought the hoped-for economic turnaround. The employment rate estimated in 2026 by ministerial reports will in fact rise by only 1.9% and the share of awarded tenders remains below the national average. This is why unions and Anci are unanimous in launching an appeal to the Region: «Team up with the Municipalities and do not leave them alone in managing this epochal challenge, otherwise we risk a flop».
