Plastic waste collection service suspended in Sinnai and Muravera.
Citizens protest and ask for a reduction in the TariPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
It had been in the air for a few days: after San Vito (and many other municipalities in southern Sardinia) , the ban on plastic collection also arrives in Sinnai and Muravera .
In a statement, Sinnai Mayor Barbara Pusceddu warned residents that, "Due to the saturation of sorting facilities and the slowdown in national collections, regional storage centers are experiencing significant operational difficulties. Collection will resume as soon as waste can be delivered to the facility, which is currently closed."
The suspension affects door-to-door collection and delivery to the Bucca Arrubia recycling center and nearby recycling centers. "A complex situation, exacerbated by the large volumes of plastic, typical of the summer season, which is severely straining the waste disposal systems of many municipalities."
Plastic waste collection services have also been suspended (starting Monday) in Muravera. This is a regional and national problem (the entire plastic recycling system is in crisis) that is beyond the municipality's control, but which in August threatens to undermine tourist destinations like Muravera and Costa Rei.
"We are monitoring the situation," the administration led by Mayor Francesca Mattana emphasized in a statement, "to quickly adopt any possible measures to limit the disruption. We have taken steps to find an alternative platform to temporarily accommodate the plastic packaging. We are working with technicians to explore various solutions that will ensure we can resume service immediately."
The Municipality, however, urges residents to continue separating plastic from other waste, not displaying plastic bags, and not disposing of plastic waste at the recycling center. Meanwhile, however, several residents, despite the Municipality's lack of responsibility, are beginning to express their discontent, as has already happened in recent days in the neighboring Municipality of San Vito. One of their demands, given the suspension of part of the service, is an immediate reduction in the Tari (waste collection and recycling) rate.
