Stop to disposable plastic dishes and containers, non-biodegradable and non-compostable starting from January 14th.
In twelve days in Italy, the EU green revolution will start: legislative decree 196/21 will come into force, implementing the "Sup" antiplastic directive, implemented last April and relating to disposable and oxo-degradable plastic products (containing additives which through oxidation lead to the fragmentation of the plastic into micro-fragments or chemical decomposition) and to fishing gear containing plastic.
The measure prohibits the consumption of those materials that have been judged not in line with the European strategy of the energy transition and that cause pollution of the seas with microplastics.
The list of products that can no longer be used includes balloons and balloon sticks, beverage containers with capacities up to three liters (including caps and lids), polystyrene foam cups and beverage containers, beverage bottles with capacities up to three liters, cutlery (forks, knives, spoons, chopsticks), plates, straws and plastic bags.
For the protection of the fish fauna and the cleaning of the seas, some tools used for fishing that contain plastic are also banned.
On the other hand, products made of washable and, therefore, reusable plastic will continue to be allowed.
It is obviously allowed to run out of stocks.
The EU directive will be revised in 2026, in light of the objectives achieved in recent years.
