Established for the first time in 2017, after receiving the official title of World Heritage of Humanity from the UNESCO Committee for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, World Pizza Day ( January 17 ) has become a date to circle in red on the calendar, even on the Island.

According to the latest data from the Confartigianato Press Office, in fact, in Sardinia the passion for pizza seems to know no bounds: 8 out of 10 Sardinians consume it. Not only that: there are 1,916 companies active in the art of pizza making, over 3,500 employees and an annual turnover of up to 79 million euros .

The most popular flavors? At the top of the podium is the timeless Margherita , chosen by almost 60% of people, followed by two other classics, Diavola and Quattro Formaggi.

"On the occasion of the day dedicated to one of the most beloved foods of all," says Giacomo Meloni , President of Confartigianato Sardegna, " we celebrate the artisan pizza chefs who, thanks to their skill and dedication, create unique creations using the highest-quality regional raw materials."

"In Sardinia, as throughout Italy," adds Meloni, "pizza represents a deeply rooted tradition, passed down through time and protected by professionals who preserve its authenticity. Each pizza tells a story of authentic flavors, fresh ingredients, and pairings that enhance the extraordinary culinary richness and identity of our island."
