The internal balance in the Sardinian centre -left is changing. Antonio Piu and Diego Loi of Europa Verde have left the group of Progressives in the Regional Council to form another one together with Eugenio Lai and Daniele Cocco of Article 1 and Maria Laura Orrù of Possibile.
Five will be part of the new formation, seven if we consider the technical adhesions of Laura Caddeo (Demos) and Roberto Deriu (Pd). The Progressives remain in three: the group leader Francesco Agus, the president Massimo Zedda and Gianfranco Satta.
The new group does not yet have a name , but today Piu spoke of a " Red-Green alliance ". «This - he declared introducing the new political subject - is not an alliance of an institutional type but of a political type which brings together Alleanza Europa Verde, Sinistra, Possibile and Articolo 1, and which goes beyond the groups in the Sardinian Assembly, also because parties such as the Italian Left are represented, which at the moment do not have a representative in the institutions". Now, he added, "we are interested in conveying this message: we need a united left that sits at a discussion and coalition table in a clear way, so that unitary policies can be promoted".
And what about the Progressives , to whom the deputy of the Green-Left Alliance Francesca Ghirra refers? "The discussion with them will continue within the institutions and the coalition table ", explained Piu, also recalling that "On November 18, Diego Loi and I decided to make a transition from civic spirit to a political party, Green Europe". And that, "the Progressives group was born after the 2019 elections and united the civic acronyms going forward for three years, but this has nothing to do with a political path like the one made by joining Green Europe". Therefore, "nothing separates us from the Progressives except membership of a party".
As for Francesca Ghirra, Piu underlined again, «she was elected by the parties Europa Verde, Sinistra Italiana, Possibile, and all the left-wing forces that are part of the Region of Sardinia. This means that she was elected by a national symbol."
