For ages now, fans have been asking for a grand return of “Pirates of the Caribbean.” The film series, considered one of the flagship productions in the Disney portfolio, has earned astronomical figures at the box office since its debut and has consolidated a following that is still alive and passionate today. The credit for this must certainly be recognized in large part to the breathtaking atmospheres that intertwine naval battles, intrigues and marine monstrosities; but also to the intelligent choice of reconciling the adventure genre with a climate more devoted to comedy and light-heartedness, favoring an audience attention aimed at all age groups.
After the disappointing response to the fifth film entitled “Deadpool”, we have been waiting for news on the next episode for almost ten years now , inheriting the heavy burden of bringing the franchise back to its former glory. According to the latest information released by World Of Reel, work on the series will resume in the second half of next year, also confirming the previous statements to EW by producer Jerry Bruckheimer who would like to see two reboots made at the same time: «There are two different films in the works. We hope to make both, and I think Disney is in agreement that they want to make the one with Margot Robbie as well».
From what has emerged, it would seem that the hypothesis of entrusting the leading role to Margot Robbie in one of the next films is still in the company's plans. In this case, according to the most recent rumors, the star would take part in an entirely female title, connected in some way to the previous chapters. Based on these rumors, the possibility that one of the projects is the one born from the collaboration between the original creator Ted Elliot and the co-creator of the television series "The Last of Us" Craig Mazin, then rewritten by the screenwriter Jeff Nathanson, is confirmed.
Confirmation of this would come indirectly from Bruckheimer himself: "I think Jeff Nathanson has solved the problem. He has a fantastic third act. We just have to clean up the first and second and then we'll get there. But he wrote a great third act." While waiting to find out which of the two projects will get underway first, the fanbase hopes for just one reassurance: will Johnny Depp somehow return to fill a place in the role of Jack Sparrow? At the moment it seems there have been no developments on the matter, and the choice by the production company to terminate the contract with the star has certainly not helped the latest negotiations.
Having put his legal history with ex-wife Amber Heard behind him, it seems that Depp has received some signs of rapprochement from Disney in recent months, as confirmed once again by Bruckheimer, who stated that he is working on a potential return. In the meantime, the star is working hard to rehabilitate his professional image in Hollywood. In addition to promoting his latest film “Modi”, which was recently presented at the Rome Film Festival, Depp is ready to return to the set of the film directed by Marc Webb “Day Drinker”, once again alongside his scene partner Penelope Cruz.
Excited about this new collaboration, the head of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group said: «Day Drinker combines a highly commercial concept with insanely outrageous twists and surprises, all set in an incredible world and there is no better filmmaker than Marc or two actors more perfectly chosen than Johnny and Penelope to bring that world to life».
Regarding the esteem cultivated over the years of work, especially in the face of past legal accusations, Cruz declared in support of her colleague: «Many years have passed and not only have I made three films with him but I also consider him a great friend. I have always been struck by his kindness, his brilliant mind, his talent and his peculiar sense of humor».
