Quasi Grazia, the film about Nobel Prize-winning writer Grazia Deledda, directed by Peter Marcias , is among the 21 films in the running to represent Italy in the selection for the International Feature Film Award category at the 99th Academy Awards.

Starring Laura Morante, Irene Maiorino, Monica Demuru, Gala Martinucci, and Roberto Citran, based on the novel by Marcello Fois, the film was well received by critics and audiences in Italian theaters and will now be released in Australia and other European countries.

The Selection Committee, established at Anica at the request of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will meet to vote and nominate the film on September 23.

The Academy's shortlist announcement is scheduled for December 15; the nominations will be announced on January 21, 2027, and the Oscars ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on March 14.

The film's release coincides with two anniversaries : the centenary of the Nobel Prize in Literature, the first and only Italian woman to win it, and the 150th anniversary of the birth of the writer from Nuoro. A narrative told through paintings that immortalizes the unexpected arrival of the mother from Nuoro, played by Sardinian actress Monica Demuru, the anxious hours leading up to the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm, and the silent, poignant confrontation with a doctor faced with a difficult diagnosis.

"Grazia Deledda is a disruptively modern figure. Her ability to dismantle the prejudices of the time makes her an incredibly timely icon for today's struggles," emphasized director Peter Marcias, who has made documentaries on great female figures such as Liliana Cavani, Piera Degli Esposti, and Nilde Iotti.
