In the Democratic Party begins the era of Elly Schlein, who today was officially proclaimed secretary during the dem Assembly . A proclamation greeted by an applause lasting more than three minutes: visibly excited, Schlein immediately embraced Stefano Bonaccini and then his predecessor Enrico Letta.

Then she took the stage to speak. He thanked the militants who "made the exercise of democracy possible" and all the challengers to the congress (Bonaccini, Cuperlo and De Micheli, as well as the outgoing secretary Letta).

Here are the Sardinians elected in the national leadership of the Democratic Party: they are Giulio Calvisi, Camilla Soru and Matteo Lecis Cocco Ortu, supporters of Schlein, and Barbara Cadoni for Bonaccini. Civil and social rights go hand in hand because people who are discriminated against for who they are are also people who work, pay taxes, do business, and find it much more difficult to access services and work. They are daily stories of discrimination against which we must not sleep at night . We must ensure the rights and full recognition of the children of same-parent families, rather than picking on Peppa Pig. The safest society is the one that does not discriminate, does not marginalize, does not leave anyone behind".

No to differentiated autonomy : «Let's put the right to housing and housing back at the center, more support for rent, for social housing, to keep the climate and social issues together. And we will strongly oppose this dangerous design by Calderoli on differentiated autonomy, because it wants to divide a country that must be mended, there is no redemption of Italy without redemption of the South ».

"I will be everyone's secretary," he claimed before proposing Stefano Bonaccini as president of the Democratic Party, precisely the rival of the new secretary in the primaries who was punctually elected almost unanimously, with one vote against and two abstentions.

"This is the time to unite, there can be no other shirts we wear other than those of the Democratic Party," said the newly elected president of the party. « We need to send home this inadequate right, whose measures are being paid by the weakest. It is a right that imposes a flat tax rather than cutting the cost of labour ".

« I don't feel like a minority or an opposition - added Bonaccini -, the Democratic Party is my home . The success of this party concerns us all, we can have different opinions and we do have some, but we will make them live in fair confrontation".

The deputy Chiara Gribaudo and the president of the Apulian regional council Loredana Capone were unanimously elected as vice-presidents of the party. The new treasurer is instead Michele Fina .

“The strength of the community, for people, for the planet” is the title of the event. 705 delegates are present, another 221 are following in connection, there are also 417 guests and 150 accredited journalists.
