«Constitutional reform is a weapon of mass distraction. Tomorrow with this reform one person would decide on Parliament's vote, it changes everything, it dismantles the parliamentary republic." The secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, said this at the demonstration "For a fairer future, there is an alternative", organized in Rome in Piazza del Popolo.

In front of thousands of supporters (over 50 thousand according to the organizers) the dem leader added: «Hands off the prerogatives of the President of the Republic, it is a plebiscitarian drift. Giorgia Meloni does not want to govern but to command, the right has always dreamed of dismantling the parliamentary Republic for the sole man in command, but the history of this country has given and it has not gone well."

«It is we – added Schlein in his speech – who have to rebuild a progressive field. We are here to build hope for the country, and this square is our answer. A new phase starts from this square, we won't leave each other here, we will have to continue working together, day by day, and we don't do it alone. There is an alternative - he concluded - if we make it happen together, we will continue to seek convergence with the other opposition forces".

Also in Piazza del Popolo was Giuseppe Conte, president of the M5S: «I am for the right camp and not for the wide camp. We are here today to confirm the dialogue that we have already started with the Democratic Party and to confirm all our strong dissent to the government's policies, starting from the maneuver, which is a disaster for the country, nothing at all, just mortifications", he said the leader of the 5 Stars.
