Pasta, how much does it cost me. Record prices throughout Italy, over 2 euros per kilo. And Cagliari rises on the not exactly comforting podium among the cities of the Peninsula, with the main food of Italian cuisine which costs the beauty of 2.40 euros per kilo .

Ancona is the Italian city that boasts - so to speak - the highest price, Cosenza is the cheapest, while Siena has the heaviest annual increase. And only in 12 provinces are the price lists of spaghetti, rigatoni and penne today below the 2 euro threshold .

The data is provided by Assoutenti, which has drawn up the official map of expensive pasta in Italy and has decided to involve Mister Prices to clarify the trend of the price lists of a product that cannot be missed on our tables.

In March, according to the latest official data, the record belongs to Ancona, where the average price stood at 2.44 euros per kilo. In second position we find Modena (2.41 euros) followed by Cagliari (2.40 euros), Bologna (2.39 euros) and Genoa (2.38 euros) . The cheapest city is Cosenza , where a kilo of pasta costs an average of 1.48 euros, followed by Palermo and Syracuse (1.50 euros) .

If we compare the current prices with those in force in March 2022, we discover that the heaviest increases are recorded in various provinces of Tuscany: the record belongs to Siena, where a kilo of pasta rises from an average of 1.37 euros per kilo last year to 2.17 euros today, an increase of 58.4% . Increases of more than 50% also in Florence (52.8%) and Pistoia (51.8%). In Alessandria the annual variations are more contained (+4.6%), while in Sassari and Naples prices rise "just" by 9.9% in one year .

The average price of pasta in Italy is currently around 2.13 euros per kilogram, with an average increase of 25.3% compared to last year (when price lists averaged 1.70 euros).

«Pasta is one of the goods most loved by Italians, with a consumption of around 23 kg per capita in a year , and it is evident that such high price lists affect consumers' pockets - explains the president of Assoutenti, Furio Truzzi -. If last year the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine had caused a tsunami on the commodity markets, today the situation appears different, with prices which, according to Coldiretti, have dropped by 30% compared to the same period of 2022 . It should also be considered that the prices of wheat are uniform throughout the national territory and are around 38 euro cents per kilo: it is therefore not clear why there are such high differences in the retail price lists of pasta between the various provinces. For this reason we have decided to send our dossier to Mr. Prices and to the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso , so that they can ascertain whether there is speculation or anomalies on pasta that could alter retail prices».
