Seven Sardinians plus one, Filippo Tortu, who has very strong roots in Sardinia . This is the number of the Island's representatives at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Record-breaking games for the blue colours, they will see the participation of 403 male and female athletes , a number that surpasses the previous record of 384 set in the last edition in Tokyo.
The Regional Committee of CONI Sardinia takes stock of Sardinian athletes. Confirmed in athletics are Dalia Kaddari from Quartia (women's 200 meters and 4x100 relay) and Lorenzo Patta from Oristano, Olympic champion in Japan who is fighting for a place in the relay in which, in addition to the four creators of the Tokyo miracle, there is Chituru Ali, to date the second best Italian sprinter after Jacobs. Sardinia will also be able to count on Marta Maggetti from Cagliari in sailing (fourth in Tokyo and among the candidates for the podium after last year's world gold medal), on Stefano Oppo from Oristano in rowing (in the palmares an Olympic bronze and several medals, also gold, at the World and European Championships) and Alessia Orro , also from Oristano, in the women's volleyball team for which she is a point of reference. Two new entries: Nicola Bartolini from Cagliari in gymnastics , world gold in 2021, and, in weightlifting, Sergio Massidda da Ghilarza, silver at the 2023 World Championships. To these we must add Filippo Tortu , who needs no introduction.
Compared to the last Olympics , Andrea Agrusti (50 km race walk canceled from the Olympic program), Francesca Deidda (synchronized swimming) who said farewell to the national team, Wanderson Polanco (athletics), Davide Ruiu (weightlifting) and Marco Spissu , with the national basketball team that failed to qualify for the Olympic tournament.
Only on two occasions had the Island been more represented at the Olympic Games: in Tokyo, with 10 athletes, and in the record edition of Rome 1960, when there were 14 Sardinians competing.
