First medals for Italy at the Paris Paralympics.
Carlotta Gilli won the gold medal in the final of the women's 100 butterfly S13. The Italian, already champion in Tokyo, beat the American Grace Nuhfer and the Uzbek
Muslima Odilova.
Another gold medal came from Francesco Bocciardo : the Italian athlete set a new Paralympic record, finishing first in the men's 200m freestyle S5 race ahead of Kyril Pulver and the Ukrainian Oleksandr Kolarov.
Also in swimming, Simone Barlaam won the silver medal in the 400 freestyle S9. The race was won by Frenchman Ugo Didier, who beat Barlaam in the last lap, while the bronze went to Australian Brenden Hall.
Silver also for Efrem Morelli in the 50 breaststroke SB3, while Francesco Bettella won the bronze medal in the 100 backstroke S1. And then Monica Boggioni , who won the bronze in the women's 200 freestyle S5.
Again: in the individual pursuit cycling, Lorenzo Bernard , in tandem with Davide Plebani , won the bronze medal, beating the Dutch pair Schure-Fransen.
