An artist's portrait through words, notes, and visions with "Kind of Miles," by and with Paolo Fresu. A tribute to Miles Davis, the legendary American trumpeter and composer who revolutionized the history of jazz, the show is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11th to Sunday, February 15th at the Teatro Massimo in Cagliari and on Monday, February 16th at the Teatro Comunale in Sassari for La Grande Prosa del Cedac.
"Kind of Miles" is a theatrical and musical work, produced by the Teatro Stabile di Bolzano, inspired by the life and intense career of the American musician, a refined and versatile performer with an unmistakable, melancholic and poignant sound and a great innovator, capable of ranging across genres and styles, from bebop, to cool jazz, hard bop, modal jazz, all the way to the electric "revolution" that marries improvised music and rock.
Paolo Fresu, in his dual role as narrator and Miles Davis's musical alter ego, evokes the creative and sonic universe of the author of "Kind of Blue" and "'Round About Midnight," from his concerts and early recordings with Charlie Parker, to his collaborations with Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane, and with Gil Evans, the quintet with Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock, up to the invention of fusion, and his return with "Tutu." On stage with Fresu (trumpet, flugelhorn, and multi-effects) is a close-knit ensemble featuring Bebo Ferra (electric guitar), Dino Rubino (piano and Fender Rhodes Electric Piano), Marco Bardoscia (double bass), Stefano Bagnoli (drums), Filippo Vignato (trombone, electronic multi-effects, keyboard), Federico Malaman (electric bass), and Christian Meyer (drums), alternating between acoustic and electric formations. "Kind of Miles," directed by Andrea Bernard, with video by Marco Usuelli and Alexandre Cayuela, lighting design by Marco Alba, and costumes by Elena Beccaro, is an imaginary journey to rediscover the music and, above all, the charismatic personality of Miles Davis, the "Prince of Darkness" who illuminated the world with his talent, leaving an indelible mark on the collective imagination and exerting a vast influence on 20th-century music to this day.
After "Tempo di Chet" and "Tango Macondo", Fresu completes the trilogy with "Kind of Miles", a personal tribute to an unforgettable artist and true jazz legend.
