The man-height bronze monument depicting a female angel made in memory of the fallen of the cruiser Trieste , bombed by the American air force eighty years ago, on April 10, 1943, has been anchored since yesterday at the bottom of the sea in the Sciumara bay in Palau, at a depth of about 12 meters at the point where the ship sank .

The operation was carried out by the personnel of the SDAI nucleus of the Navy, commanded by Lieutenant Rera.

The commemorative angel was designed by the Maddalena artist Annalisa Pes, commissioned by the administrations of Palau and La Maddalena.

"A work that we deliver forever to the new generations", said the deputy mayor of Palau Fabrizio Aisoni , "remembering is a duty". "Let's pay the right honors to those who gave their lives for their country", are the words of the mayor of La Maddalena, Fabio Lai.

On April 27th, at the point of the shipwreck where the statue has now been placed, on the ship Orione, the solemn blessing and inauguration will take place with the launching of a commemorative wreath into the sea . The ceremonies will take place at sea and on land, in the presence of the Band of the Sassari Brigade and the Fanfare of the Northern Maritime Interregional Command.

Among other things, at the Sciumara beach, the projection of the video is planned which will resume all the phases of the project, starting from the protocol signed in November by the two mayors of La Maddalena and Palau, Fabio Lai and Franco Manna, up to the positioning of the monument in the background.
