Until now, no one outside of investigators knew the story of the young camel stabbed to death in Ovodda. A story that remained hidden for months in reports and confidential documents, and whose gravity is only now emerging.

The story

According to reports collected by investigators, in March someone attempted to steal a small camel belonging to breeder Michele Ladu. The theft was unsuccessful, and the animal, a young specimen that had arrived after the media success of Rodolfo and his camel Valentina, was found dead, almost torn to pieces. This violent and inexplicable act has so far remained shrouded in secrecy during the investigation.

New arrival

Today Rodolfo and Valentina are no longer alone: next to them is Enrico, another camel who arrived after the loss of the young specimen.

The discovery of the young camel's fate several months ago coincides with house searches triggered by threats made against an animal rights activist.

The searches

The revelation of the case comes at the same time as another turning point, but linked to a different story.

Animal rights activist Enrico Rizzi announced on social media that, on orders from the Rome Prosecutor's Office, Carabinieri officers from the Nuoro provincial command conducted three searches in Aztara, Desulo, and Oliena. The recipients are under investigation for death threats made against Rizzi during heated discussions following the Ollolai Carnival, when the activist criticized the use of Rodolfo in the parade. Cell phones were also seized for technical inspection.

Parallel investigations

The investigation is now proceeding on two separate fronts: on the one hand, the search for the perpetrators of the threats against Rizzi; on the other, the determination of responsibility for the extremely serious act of intimidation against the breeder Michele Ladu. These two incidents are emerging almost simultaneously, shedding new light on the climate of tension surrounding the presence of camels at local carnivals, which have nevertheless become highly attractive to visitors.
