A flurry of appointments, with members of the departments' and presidency's staff, with their generous salaries, will end up costing more than half a million euros each by the end of the legislature.

These are the effects of the widespread implementation of the so-called "seat-filling law": passed under Christian Solinas's government, harshly criticized by the opposition when the Five Star Movement was in the minority, and now exploited in every aspect, precisely when the Five Star Movement is leading the region. This is why the Brothers of Italy are challenging: "Let's repeal that law."

Rekindling the controversy is Fausto Piga, deputy group leader of the Brothers of Italy (FdI) in the Regional Council. He argues that the law "had already been the subject of an attempted repeal, rejected by the center-left majority at the beginning of the legislature."

Piga doesn't deny having participated in the law's approval, "so much so that I would vote for it again, convinced it could be a useful tool for improving government action. The populist and demagogic barricades were being put up by Campo Largo," the Melonian representative recalls.

"False moralists like President Todde, the Five Star Movement, and the left should apologize to citizens for deceiving them with deceptive propaganda based on feigned indignation, just to win elections. In the previous legislature, they called it a 'disgraceful law' that dealt a blow to the poor," she accuses, "but now they are doing worse than those they criticized, as the data published in the transparency section demonstrates, and they are only thinking about getting jobs."

Now FdI "is waiting for them at the pass under Article 9 of the amendment: they should have the dignity to put their face on it, to apologize for having defrauded the citizens and apologize once and for all, even if I doubt they will be coherent enough to vote for the repeal of the law that they themselves called a "seat-filler"."
