The Overlap project, a fascinating crossroads of art, science, ecology and anthropology born in 2019, conceived and created on the island of Asinara by the Senza Confini Di Pelle company, in collaboration with numerous national and international partners, including the Asinara National Park Authority, the Universities of Sassari (Dumas) and Cagliari (Department of Letters, Languages and Cultural Heritage), Medu, the Ccnn of Nantes, continues to arouse curiosity and interest. On Tuesday 28 January at 6 pm it will be the protagonist in the conference room of the Port Museum, in via A. Bassu, 1, in Porto Torres, through WAAB Asinara Review, a multidisciplinary exhibition divided into the photographic series “Le cose Lontane” and “L'atlante dello smarrimento”, created by the Algherese photographer Silvia Sanna, during the residential workshops at Asinara as part of Overlap, and the video documentary "Overlap 2021/2022" by Senza Confini Di Pelle, which tells the story of the project, which enjoys the support of the Fondazione di Sardegna and the patronage of the municipality of Porto Torres.
The inauguration will be attended by the curators Dario La Stella and Valentina Solinas, the photographer Silvia Sanna, the representatives of the Institutions and some members of the Overlap working group . The exhibition, with free admission, will be open until February 2, every day from 6 to 8 pm. In the photographs and in the documentary, Asinara is the protagonist through the stratifications of people and stories that have crossed it over the centuries. From agricultural colony to lazaretto, from maximum security prison to forced refuge for the judges Falcone and Borsellino at the time of the Maxi Trial investigation, and now finally a National Park whose extraordinary biodiversity constitutes a common good to be defended and enhanced. Silvia Sanna, winner of several national and international awards, with exhibitions in Italy, USA, South Korea, Spain, France, Greece and Romania, has created The Atlas of Lostness starting from the concept of getting lost and the need to look for ways of salvation.
The 18 photographs that make up the series intertwine « a reflection on the stratification of people and desires, wills, illusions and disappointments that, at the same time, coexist and share the same space, to then disappear and leave traces on the ground that, even if ephemeral, represent an indelible memory of their passage ». The series “Le cose lontane” develops instead from the concepts of “border” and “foreigner”, to draw attention to the need for a «dialogue on the boundaries of the body, of the skin, of traditions and of language; beyond every intellectual disharmony, beyond every physical and mental limit, beyond every boundary of indifference».
The documentary Overlap 2021 – 2022 tells the direct experience of Asinara lived by researchers walking, smelling, breathing its air, sniffing it, returning to the island each time to expand their personal perception and be able to return this vision to the outside world, each time renewed and enriched. The video footage and photos of the documentary (production Senza Confini Di Pelle, 2024 - duration 17') are by the Overlap project work group, directed by Dario La Stella who edited it together with Mario Carta (Shardan Art web) .
