The coast is at the center, along with a revolution in waste collection, the revitalization of the historic center, and the ambition of a more tourist-friendly Quartu. Roberto Matta, a tourism entrepreneur, is running as a mayoral candidate for the local elections on June 7th and 8th. His 28 candidates from the Tourism and Progress civic list were presented today—along with their electoral platform—in a venue on the Quartu coast.
"Tourism must be the engine of the city's economic and social development," says Matta. The election slogan is "From the coast to the center": "The strategy is to reverse the direction of development, starting from the margins to redesign the entire urban fabric."
"We want to be free from party politics. I said no to the center-right that promised me a councilor's seat. No compromises, we'll move forward with consistency." Then he referred to his candidacy on a list led by current mayor Graziano Milia for the 2020 municipal elections: "A first foray into civic duty, which I abandoned almost immediately after realizing that some of the points of the then platform weren't being respected."
There was also no shortage of jabs at the other candidate for the Quartu municipal elections, center-right candidate Marco Porcu: "Strolling out and having coffee isn't enough to make yourself known a month before the elections. I've seen his resume; he's a lawyer, but it doesn't reveal any significant administrative experience."
And again: "We are the real alternative for Quartu, the polls confirm our enthusiasm for our electoral program. And if things don't go as well as we expect," Matta says, "we are ready to mount a serious opposition to truly improve this city."
