The project aims to retrace, through music, poetry, and storytelling, the figure of the great Sardinian writer and the deep connection Deledda always maintained with her homeland, its culture, and its traditions. On Tuesday, September 29, at San Michele Park in Silì, the project "Cantos in Sardinia – Chent'annos de Grazia Deledda" (Cantos in Sardinia – Celebrating the Years of Grazia Deledda) concludes. The project, promoted by the Academy of Popular Traditions – "Sa Pintadera" Female Choir of Oristano, celebrates the centenary of Grazia Deledda's 1926 Nobel Prize in Literature award. Throughout 2026, the initiative has brought concerts and events to various locations across Sardinia, offering a journey through history, culture, and tradition through music. The Silì event represents the project's final event and takes on a special significance due to the choice of date. In fact, September 29th is the feast day of Saint Michael the Archangel, a figure to whom Grazia Deledda was particularly devoted and who also appears in one of her fairy tales.
The evening, beginning at 9:30 pm, will feature a blend of readings, poetry readings, music, and songs dedicated to the writer and her work. Artistic direction is entrusted to Maestro Giovanni Andrea Puddu, while the musical and poetic performances will be led by Ambra Pintore, accompanied by Roberto Scala on bass and accordion, and Federico Valenti on guitar. The evening's star performers will be the Sa Pintadera Choir of Oristano, conducted by Maestro Puddu, along with the Fantafolk Boghes, featuring Vanni Masala, Andrea Pisu, and Jonny Porcheddu, and the La Vega Choir of Milis, also conducted by Maestro Puddu. A particularly significant feature will be the musical tribute to Grazia Deledda through "America e Sardigna," the only poem written in the Sardinian language by the writer, which will be performed by the Sa Pintadera Choir in a version harmonized by Maestro Giovanni Andrea Puddu. Told and beloved by Grazia Deledda, through the power of words and music and the heritage of the island's popular traditions. The event is organized under the patronage of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia – Department of Public Education, Cultural Heritage, Information, Entertainment and Sport, the Municipality of Oristano – Department of Culture, and with the collaboration of various partners.
