The visit to the Grand Hotel ex Esit as part of Open Monuments turned into an Amarcord trip for the English tourist Gordon Jenkins, born in 1929, from Bristol. The man stayed in the accommodation facility (now a professional hotel school) way back in 1956.
Today he had the opportunity to return to those spaces transformed for decades into the glorious institute for hotel and catering services in Alghero. The visit to the building in Piazza Sulis was the novelty of the 2024 edition of "Open Monuments" and Gordon Jenkins made his tour accompanied by a group of students.
He said he arrived at the Grand Hotel by pure chance, 68 years ago, after meeting the then hotel manager, Victor Hugo Saccardi, on the island of Jersey, France. He still keeps his business card.
