For the new edition of Monumenti Aperti, the Municipality of Stintino celebrates its history and identity. This year, the beating heart of the celebrations will be the Maschjarana , an authentic symbol of the village's maritime identity. The lateen-rigged vessel will be the centerpiece of activities at the Port Museum, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the history and art of local shipbuilding.

Built in 2005, Maschjarana is the result of a prestigious training project for master shipwrights, conducted under the masterful guidance of Silvestro Pilo, an unforgettable figure and the last historic master shipwright of Stintino. Today, the vessel is an integral part of the municipal heritage and continues to sail the Mediterranean thanks to the commitment of the Sottovento Association, chaired by Mario Schiaffino, which manages its crew and promotes its value. The lateen-rigged vessel, built in 2005 under the guidance of legendary master shipwright Silvestro Pilo, will be a prominent feature at the Port Museum.

"On the occasion of Open Monuments, we are proud to restore the Maschjarana to its central role, a jewel of our maritime heritage that speaks to Stintino's deepest identity. I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Sottovento Association and its president Mario Schiaffino: thanks to their passion and unwavering commitment, the Maschjarana is not just an artifact to be admired, but a living vessel. Special thanks also go to Culture Councilor Marta Diana for her determined support of this project and the ongoing involvement of local communities," stated Stintino Mayor Rita Limbania Vallebella. During the event, members of the Sottovento Association will preside over the rigged vessel at the Port Museum of the Lateen Sails. The crew will be available to the public, especially children, to illustrate traditional construction techniques and the functioning of the lateen sail, keeping alive a technical expertise that was at risk of disappearing.
