Open Monuments in Alghero, 31 sites and 7 itineraries to discover

“Spaces for Dreams” in the Riviera del Corallo for the twenty-second edition of Alghero Monumenti Aperti, the event which on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May will see students, associations and citizens engaged in guided tours of the main cultural sites in the area. 31 are open and can be visited on weekends with 7 itineraries, around 1500 volunteers involved.
Today the presentation press conference, in Lo Quarter, with the mayor Mario Conoci, the councilor for Culture Alessandro Cocco and the president of the Imago Mundi association in remote connection, Massimiliano Messina. With them the representatives of the Alghero Foundation, the Diocese of Alghero-Bosa, the cultural associations and the schools that collaborate on the initiative. For the first time the Hotel Institute is also participating, with the task of welcoming visitors to the Ex Hotel Esit, the Grand Hotel in Alghero which is now home to the professional school. The Ente Sardo Industrie Turistice was founded in Sardinia in the 1950s, with the specific task of building and managing a dozen hotels divided between the coast and the internal parts of Sardinia. Among the most famous and successful accommodation facilities is the Grand Hotel, which stands on the seafront, in one of the most panoramic sites in Alghero, with ninety beds, operational for at least twenty years.
The other sites that can be visited are scattered between the historic center and the countryside. Churches, squares, Aragonese towers, museums, then the theatre, the Santa Maria La Palma winery, the Sacro Cuore school, the San Francesco complex, that of Lo Quarter, the headquarters of the Mutual Aid Workers' Society, the headquarters of the Band musical Dalerci and the Giuseppe Tommasiello prison. And again, the Domus de Janas Cuguttu, the villages of Palmavera and Sant'Imbenia and the nationalist architecture of Fertilia. Seven itineraries will accompany residents and guests to discover the city and the area.
