For the third consecutive year, Stintino also reveals itself to the public in its historical-cultural guise: on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 May, a large number of bodies and institutions, schools and associations will make it possible to open 6 monuments - one more than last year, namely the Statue of Peace - and organize an itinerary to get to know the charming village overlooking Asinara even better.
Stintino participates in Open Monuments together with 12 other municipalities of Sardinia - Assemini, Bosa, Carloforte, Chiaramonti (only on Sunday 25), Cuglieri, Ittiri, Monteleone Rocca Doria, Nuxis, Ossi, Selargius, Simalae Sini - plus the cities of Cosenza, Quiliano in the province of Savona and Rome.
"I am convinced that it can contribute to making boys and girls involved and active in the socio-cultural fabric: they will be the protagonists of the dissemination of the culture and history of their territory", said the mayor Rita Vallebella. To which is added the thought of the Councilor for Culture Marta Diana, archaeologist: " Monuments Open is an important opportunity to promote our territory even during the low season and to make Stintino known not only as a destination for seaside tourism, but also as a place rich in history and traditions that we intend to preserve for future generations ".
The territory is also part of the Sentieri nuragici, a fascinating journey to discover the treasures of the thousand-year-old Nuragic civilization of our island that marks the partnership between Imago Mundi and the association La Sardegna verso l'Unesco. The initiative is developed through a rich calendar of guided tours in 30 Nuragic sites of the island. The monuments that can be visited are: Mut– Museo della tonnara in via Lepanto (guided tours Saturday and Sunday from 11 to 13 and from 16 to 19.30); Casa della Confraternita Madonna della Difesa (via Sassari 121/B; guided tours Saturday from 16.30 to 19.30 and Sunday from 11 to 13 and from 16.30 to 19.30).
Returning after its debut in 2024 is the Porto museo delle vele latine (Minori port, Lungomare Colombo; guided tours on Saturday from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm and on Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm and from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm); Nuraghe Unia (located in Unia; guided tours on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 7:30 pm); Caposaldo stretto Stintino (located in Le Saline; guided tours on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 7:30 pm). Finally, the new addition to this edition is the Statua della Pace (lungomare Colombo 71; guided tours on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 7:30 pm). The monument commemorates the young women kidnapped and forced into prostitution for the Japanese army in the Indo-Pacific area during the Second World War.
From the former Tore Pippia Sports Field (Ovile del Mercante), a guided tour is planned to the Tower, located on one of the highest points of northern Nurra. 16th century sources indicate that an unfortified observation point was originally installed in the location, which remained so until 1580 when it was replaced by the current tower. The monument, recently restored in 2019, originally controlled the sea and the north-western coasts of Sardinia for a radius of about 50 km, communicating visually with other towers of the coastal defense system of north-western Sardinia, installed between Asinara and the coastal strip that reaches up to Castelsardo.
The guided tours will be organized by the Gruppo Speleo Ambientale Sassari association in collaboration with the Visit Stintino Tourist Office. Departure time: both Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 (first excursion) and at 18 (second and last excursion of the day).
